John Lennon turned 18 years dead this Tuesday. I know there's a million reasons why this guy should no longer be cool. The Beatles broke up 100 years ago. For someone regarded as a cutting wit, he never really had any points to make beyond "Peace" and "Love." If he were alive today, he'd probably be in the Traveling Wilbury's or hosting a VH-1 show or something awful. But I can't help it: this guy was the coolest person ever. Go buy everything he ever did. -ed.

Regarding: Brian's article making fun of Jimmy Buffett

while i appreciate your views, it doesn't sound like Brian has listened to much jimmy buffett.

as a parrothead (buffet fan), i can vouch that MOST of his songs are anything BUT fail-safe! he's more a story teller than a song writer, and has failed to be classified in any particular genre of music since his first album.

also, buffet has no "record contract," per se, as brian mentions. after his second album was "lost" by the record company back in the mid-60s, buffet has been on his own. his only "contract" with a major label is for distribution, not recording.

and finally, "why don't we get drunk and screw" was re-titled for the live album "feeding frenzy." it's now referred to as "A Love Song (from a different point of view)."

You can say what you want about Brian's article, but you had damn well better watch what you say about things that I write -- like THAT JOHN GLENN PIECE! That was a masterpiece! Well, not really. I guess you're right. - ed.
